Taiwanese consumer electronics company HTC is currently working on a new virtual reality (VR) device. Sources are saying that the new device is a mobile device that could compete with the Gear VR and the Daydream View.
HTC is reportedly working on a mobile VR device. A new virtual reality device from the Taiwanese company could be coming out soon. The device is expected to work with the company’s latest flagship smartphone, the U Ultra. The virtual reality device will not be anything like the Samsung Gear VR which is headset accessory to compatible with Samsung Galaxy devices. This announcement comes from chief financial officer Chia-lin Chang.
Virtual reality allows one to be integrated into a computer-generated world. The technology is slowly evolving and its industry slowly growing. The Taiwanese company ventured into virtual reality technology with its Vive system which unfortunately requires quite an expensive and powerful PC. However, there currently are cheaper, but less powerful, alternatives such as Samsung’s Gear VR and Google’s Daydream View.
The HTC Vive, with its powerful hardware, is actually aimed at tech enthusiasts. However, it isn’t that appealing to the masses that prefer a more inexpensive, more convenient, and more accessible virtual reality device.
Initially, the company’s focus was on PC-depended devices just like the Oculus Rift. With the release of the Gear VR and Daydream View, that focus has since shifted.
The Daydream View, for example, is an easy-to-use virtual reality headset. It can work with a compatible smartphone and whose hardware is able to support Daydream View’s software. The software is ever-evolving and widely supported by developers as it is built on the Android OS platform. In addition, the Daydream view is inexpensive, priced at only £69.00.
Fans could be looking at a direct competition to the Daydream View. However, fans could also be looking at a whole new device that Google’s or Samsung’s current devices won’t compare to.
