Some of the necessary features of virtual reality shall be correct positional monitoring of the headset and user movement. Valve’s SteamVR–the best virtual reality implementation we have tried so far–uses a beacon-based monitoring system known as Lighthouse. We chat with Lighthouse engineer Alan Yates about how Lighthouse and its elements work, the know-how’s strengths and limitations, and the way it may very well be utilized in different purposes exterior of VR.
